This aims to be a comprehensive living document—listing all of the ways participants can contribute to the Society Protocol (SP) movement.
There are four distinct ways to contribute: as an asynchronous contributor, a full-time core-team member, an investor, or an affiliate.
All roles are fully remote. Pseudonymous participation is accepted and encouraged in almost every role.
A retroactive rewards system is in-place for exceptional contributions—with 5% of the total SPEC token supply earmarked for these purposes. How these retroactive rewards are distributed is decided by the governors of the movement.
We keep track of participants’ contributions via the account system found at app.societyprotocol.io.
Contributors
Contributors are asynchronous participants from all over the world. They have a wide degree of freedom which comes from not being directly affiliated to our organization, and aren’t directly tied down by our ideology or culture.

Creatives: Perhaps the easiest way to get involved. We are currently in the ‘raising awareness’ stage of the project. All creative content related to Society Protocol (articles, video content, street art, workshops, podcasts, etc) is appreciated. [There are effectively no blockers on asynchronous creative contributions.]
Each month we hold a creative contest with a $1000 USD prize pool for the top creative content contributions. More details about the creative contest can be found in this post.

Researchers: Refine the architecture and game-theory of Society Protocol and Web4. The place these discussions are held is in the technical section of our forums. [Researchers face effectively no blockers on asynchronous contributors.]

Software Engineers: The current state of affairs is that we’re building two projects in parallel: the Web2 Demo and the Web3 Outpost. Both projects are in their early stages, and we’re currently building out platforms that other engineers can stand on (documentation, roadmaps, architecture specs). All of our architecture and repositories are public and stored at https://specs.societyprotocol.io/ (technical specifications) and in our Github (repositories).
There is plenty of work, but if you are interested in asynchronous contributions to these projects, you will most likely require guidance at this stage [asynchronous contribution is not trivial]. You can reach out to our engineering team at: [email protected] and we’ll try to provide the guidance necessary for you to build what you want.
Core Team Members
If you are interested in working on Society Protocol full-time, we are looking for a few key crucial early roles to join our core team. [Pre-fundraising, you would receive a SPEC allocation as compensation, and a salary only after initial fundraising.] The roles we’re looking to fill can be seen in our careers page. All core-team roles are fully remote.
A referral system exists for helping us find core-team members. It’s a focus area of the retroactive SPEC rewards program. Anyone who introduces us to a candidate which ends up joining our core-team (and remaining with us after a 6 month introductory period), will be eligible and retroactively rewarded a significant SPEC token allocation.

Investors
Investors contribute capital by participating in the fundraising event. The primary fundraising event will be the ICO (initial coin offering), it will be open to everyone and distribute 31% of the total SPEC token supply. It will happen after we’ve raised sufficient awareness for the project, and the ICO will last up to six months as a dutch auction. More information about the ICO can be found here.
Liquidity Providers: 5% of the total SPEC token supply will be distributed to liquidity providers as a bonus for providing liquidity, more details about this to come after the initial token liquidity event.
Affiliates
Partner Communities: Communities which intend to instantiate their own Synchronized States. They say what they need, the core team builds it, and that loop is the main thing keeping the architecture tied to real use rather than to theory.
Partnership is open to any community meeting these criteria:

Willingness to be named publicly as a partner.
In exchange, partner communities hold a share of governance, leveraging this to steer the roadmap and ensuring the protocol is developed according to their specific needs.
