Proof of merit?

As AI helps people circumvent the old barriers to entry, there has been a temporary explosion in fake content. But I have a theory: growing recognition of the illegitimacy of content will drive a renewed interest in, and support the greater value of, genuine creations. Perhaps this Protocol can be at the vanguard of this transformation. There is a need for spaces, parallel ecosystems even (such as the voluntary associations of which Alexis de Tocqueville wrote), in which individual rights, the property represented by original creations and the merit represented by such creativity, will be upheld and valued.

The many inefficiencies and dysfunctions which Ashton has identified in his various writings all constitute forms of betrayal of either individual rights or of the value of meritocracy. The deformation of the social contract away from symbiotic relationships in which reciprocity and accountability reign supreme, and towards exploitative (if not parasitic) relationships in which power replaces reciprocity and accountability, has led to the need for this type of Protocol to guide us, at the very least, into a parallel social and economic structure in which some symbiotic relationships can flourish irrespective of the chaos and dysfunction that may rule in the larger society. This is one way, perhaps, in which we can survive and be in this world without being of this world.

Society Protocol is the only way I know of to:

  1. stop AI slop (because all state (like fake content) exists as Property in the system, it is tracked from its origination point, through it’s full lifecycle)…so it becomes easy to visualize which Actors are making and propagating what types of content in the system (as the whole state is unified).

  2. Property rights are ensured cryptographically.

  3. AI generated content still has a place, and AI is treated as first class “citizens” (Actors), it’s just very important that we’re able to distinguish reality from generated content, and that’s currently becoming impossible, and getting worse everyday.

  4. It’s of critical existential importance for most humans that AI models themselves are controlled by a wider swathe of people than are currently in possession of them today, and the only way to accomplish this is with a distributed system of governance and control like Society Protocol.

All of these are critical.

Society Protocol solves them all at once (and that’s only ~15% of its total benefits.) :exploding_head:

It’s going to take a little bit of time for people to understand.
